Laminate flooring: stylish, durable, and budget-friendly

Are you looking to refresh your home without breaking the bank? Laminate flooring could be your perfect solution. Laminate is known for its durability, low maintenance, and stylish appeal. It has quickly become a go-to option for homeowners who want the appearance of hardwood or stone without the hefty price tag. Easy to install, beautiful to look at, and tough enough to handle the busiest households, laminate flooring brings together the best of all worlds. Whether you're redesigning your living room, updating a kitchen, or enhancing a bedroom, laminate has the versatility and practicality you need.

What is laminate flooring?

Laminate flooring is a synthetic product designed to mimic the look of real wood, stone, or tile. It’s made up of multiple layers, each serving a purpose to give the flooring strength, appearance, and durability. The top layer is a clear, protective coating that guards against scratches, stains, and fading from sunlight. Beneath that is the design layer, which showcases a high-resolution image of wood grain, stone texture, or tile pattern. Underneath, there’s a dense core layer that provides stability and resilience, typically made of fiberboard. The bottom layer, also called the backing layer, adds balance to the flooring and helps resist moisture.

This construction makes laminate both affordable and versatile. It’s a top choice for those who want the aesthetics of hardwood or tile without the upkeep or cost. Plus, it’s easy to install thanks to the “click-and-lock” system, where each plank simply clicks into place.

Benefits of laminate floors

Laminate flooring is packed with benefits that make it a standout option for modern homes. Here’s why it’s an excellent choice:

  1. Affordability: Laminate flooring offers premium looks at a budget-friendly price. Compared to hardwood or natural stone, it’s significantly more affordable, making it ideal for homeowners wanting to upgrade multiple rooms without a huge expense. It’s an investment that boosts your home’s appeal without emptying your wallet.
  2. Durability: One of the key benefits of laminate wood flooring is its resilience. Thanks to its tough outer layer, it resists scratches, dents, and stains, standing up to high-traffic areas like kitchens, hallways, and living rooms. If you have kids or pets, you’ll appreciate how well laminate holds up to daily wear and tear. The design layer won’t fade in the sunlight, and the core layer helps keep moisture out, which makes it suitable for most spaces in your home.
  3. Low maintenance: Cleaning laminate flooring is a breeze. Dust and dirt don’t cling to the surface, and a simple sweep or mop keeps it looking like new. You won't need special treatments or polishes because it’s resistant to stains and moisture. Laminate saves you both time and money on upkeep, making it ideal for busy households that still want a clean, polished look.
  4. Easy installation: Laminate flooring is known for its straightforward installation process. With the “click-and-lock” or “floating floor” system, each plank connects seamlessly with the next. No glue or nails are needed, making it possible to install even without professional help. Laminate floors offer an achievable and satisfying result for homeowners who love a good DIY project.
  5. Versatile style options: With laminate, you’re not limited to a single style or texture. This flooring comes in an incredible variety of designs, including wood grains like oak, maple, and walnut, as well as stone and tile patterns. Whether you want a rustic farmhouse look, a sleek modern design, or a classic stone finish, laminate has a style to suit your taste. It lets you customize each room to match your vision.

A Little about Laminate...

Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product, fused together with a lamination process.

Laminate flooring imitates wood (or stone, in some cases, marble) with a photographic appliqué layer under a clear protective layer. The inner core layer is usually composed of melamine resin and fiber board materials. Protected by a tough external layer and resin coating, laminate is much stronger, scratch-resistant, and longer-lasting.

Laminate flooring was invented in 1977 by the Swedish company Pergo. The company first marketed its product to Europe in 1984, and later to the United States in 1994. Pergo is the most widely known laminate flooring manufacturer, but the trademark PERGO does not represents all laminate floors. There are more choices for quality laminate flooring today than ever before. In fact, Pergo plays a very small role in the materials Jezard Flooring participates in.

The system of using a tongue and groove method was applied creating a single unit that is impervious to normal household spills or tracked in rain or snow. This single unit expands or contracts with changes in humidity. This movement, by the way, cannot be seen. The strength of the bond in creating the single unit permits heavy objects, such as refrigerators or bookcases to be placed directly on the flooring.

Most laminate flooring manufacturers offer extensive warranty protection against stains, fading, and moisture damage. Jezard Flooring carries a variety of laminate floors from many different manufactures.
